The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) was founded by an Englishman Tim Berners -Lee in 1994 at this time there was many different versions of HTML being offered by various browser vendors which meant there were inconsistency between web pages the aim of the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) was to bring some kind of industry standard guidelines to the world of web design and development this was done by trying to get all those vendors to agree on a set of guidlines that they would all support. In 1997 the W3C starting creating offices worldwide and as of September 2009 it has 18 offices worldwide. Although these recommendations are in place it is still up to the manufacturuer weather of not they follow these guildlines but recommenadtions must be followed if you wish to label your work W3C compliant the recommendations are offered under a royalty free patent licence which means they can be implemented by anyone.
